Dividend Income Update July 2020

The start of every month is exciting for all dividend income investors as we look back at the previous month and see how much passive dividend income our portfolios generated. July was exciting as ever as my year over year numbers continue to highlight the trifecta magic of dividend investing which includes, adding fresh capital, dividend raises and basic compounding to create an ever increasing passive income stream. Even if I stopped adding fresh capital today and every dividend stock I owned kept all distributions flat, without a single raise, my passive income stream would continue to grow. With that being said, let’s take a look back at my July 2020 dividend income.

Dividend income from my taxable account totaled $660.40 up from $576.56 an increase of 14.5% from July of last year.

Dividend income from my ROTH account totaled $300.23 up from $270.05 an increase of 11.2% from this time last year.

Dividend income from my IRA account totaled $84.10 up from $69.91 from this time last year, an increase of 20.3%.

Grand total for the month of July: $1,044.73 an increase of 14.0% from July 2019.

I have to say I’m quite pleased with my July totals. Who would complain about a 14.0% year over year increase and hitting that coveted four digit milestone? The proof of our dividend investing strategy rests in these real results even with big stinkers like GE and KHC in the mix and soon BP. Whatever… This is why we diversify! After all, dividends don’t lie. It’s real cash being returned to investors. With patience and consistency these results and better can be achieved. Just remember, sometimes investing with blinders on can be beneficial as it blocks out the constant noise we are bombarded with on a daily basis and keeps you focused on the job at hand which is to keep investing, not falling for market timing traps, diversifying, not getting shaken out of the market when it tumbles and just creating a solid, ever growing passive income stream.

Are any of these dividend stocks in your portfolio too? How was your July dividend income? Please let me know below.

Disclosure: Long all above

    • Hi Passivecanadianincome,

No complaints from me about hitting four digits in a month. I’ll take it considering there may be some tough times ahead with some serious cuts to my portfolio. BP, KTB, YUMC, WFC to name a few. Not to mention my KHC and GE from not that long ago too. Part of the DGI game, We all experience those cuts from time to time. I’m holding on to my Canadian banks… TD, BNS and RY.

  1. Nice increase compared to last year DH! We share 4 companies this month (LEG, CAH, IRM and KMB). Crossing $1k must be an amazing feeling, hopefully I will reach these numbers in the future.

    • Hi MR,

So far so good in 2020 even though my portfolio has been knocked around a bit with quite a few dividend cuts. Still on track to beat 2019 totals so all is well.
