A master in business administration or MBA is still regarded as one of the most valuable graduate degrees to pursue today. As the economy grows at a steady pace and companies expand their operations to new markets, the demand for qualified professionals continues to rise.

It is also interesting to note that we now have more concentrations to choose from. Top universities are responding to the growing market needs and updating their curriculum on a regular basis. There are several MBA concentrations that could lead to a brighter future.

Energy Management

The field of renewable energy is one of the hottest and fastest growing industries on the market. The world is actively searching for new sources of renewable energy. There are more companies investing in this field too, which means an MBA in energy management is a good degree to have.

Universities such as Norwich University and their online MBA program are starting to offer energy management as a concentration. You will learn about how different strategies can be used to further boost an organization’s energy efficiency.

The course also lets you master critical skills such as resource management and critical thinking. Aside from working for energy companies, these skills are handy to have in general as well. To make it even better, by the time you earn an MBA in energy management, the market will be booming.

Project Management

Focusing your online MBA degree in project management is another great decision you can make today. Every business needs good project managers. Now that the market is shifting further towards result-oriented workflows, each process in a business is handled as a small project.

An MBA in project management sets you up for a mid- to top-level management position. If you want to invest in an MBA to boost your career to new heights, this is one of the best concentrations to choose. You will even learn skills such as procurement and strategic problem solving; skills that will make you a great manager and project leader.

Supply Chain Management

With this concentration, you will have what it takes to further improve the internal logistics of a company. Strategies such as Just-in-Time supply isn’t always easy to implement, but the degree lets you be the person to tackle the challenges of logistics in a global company.

Similar to the previous two concentrations, majoring in supply chain management is a good decision for your future. It is a highly requested skill and the degree will help you climb the corporate ladder even faster than before.

Is an MBA degree still worth investing in? The answer is a definite YES. 1. This is a very well written post.

As a teacher, I believe investing in yourself is one of the best investments a person can make. These concentrations look like great areas of study.

And don’t forget a healthy dose of accounting, finance and financial management classes as potential electives within the concentrations mentioned. Numbers are the language of business and the better an employee can understand them and help their employer (no matter their functional expertise) improve the bottom line, the better. Great communication and interpersonal skills are important too.

Again, great writing (communication skills) on display in this post.

  2. I’m glad to hear that the demand for qualified professionals continues even if mankind heads towards a future where robots (AI) will control almost the entire planet.

    • Hi Dan,

There is a lot of hype around AI and I’m sure it will impact our workforce dramatically but I think we still have a while before it becomes mainstream and truly disruptive. Something to look out for though. Thank you for commenting.
