Dividend Income Update March 2019

The start of every month is exciting for all dividend income investors as we look back at the previous month and see how much passive dividend income our portfolios generated. March was exciting as ever as my year over year numbers continue to highlight the trifecta magic of dividend investing which includes, adding fresh capital, dividend raises and basic compounding to create an ever increasing passive income stream. Even if I stopped adding fresh capital today and every dividend stock I owned kept all distributions flat, without a single raise, my passive income stream would continue to grow. With that being said, let’s take a look back at my March 2019 dividend income.

Dividend income from my taxable account totaled $792.26 up from $679.27 an increase of 16.6% from March of last year.

Dividend income from my ROTH account totaled $182.92 up from $159.04 an increase of 15.0% from this time last year.

Dividend income from my IRA account totaled $5.80 down from $59.92 from this time last year, a decrease of -90.3%. Nothing wrong here. HCP used to pay in March last year which explains the year over year decrease as its payment has shifted to another month.

Grand total for the month of March: $980.98 an increase of 9.2% from March 2018.

I have to say I’m quite pleased with my March totals. Who would complain about an 9.2% year over year increase (even with that nasty KHC cut)? Stay diversified my friends.

The proof of our dividend investing strategy rests in these real results. After all, dividends don’t lie. It’s real cash being returned to investors. With patience and consistency these results and better can be achieved. Just remember, sometimes investing with blinders on can be beneficial as it blocks out the constant noise we are bombarded with on a daily basis and keeps you focused on the job at hand which is to keep investing, not falling for market timing traps, diversifying, not getting shaken out of the market when it tumbles and just creating a solid, ever growing passive income stream.

Are any of these dividend stocks in your portfolio too? How was your March dividend income? Please let me know below.

Disclosure: Long all above

    • Hi PIV,

Just wait for that right time to pounce and you’ll get your chance to add those solid dividend payers as well. MMM seems like a beaten up play in recent days. Have you taken a bite?

    • Hi DD,

The magic four digit goal we all seek as newbie dividend growth investors. I see it in my future and as you already know in the meantime it will be same old, same old… buy every month, reinvest and enjoy those raises when they come.

    • Hi MDD,

I await the feeling of crossing $1K. My next long term goal is to average $1K a month in passive income and definitely see it in my future. Congrats on your milestone!

    • Hi desidividend,

Always nice to see common names paying us both. For me it’s always interesting to see how others are collecting their passive income. As always, I appreciate your comment.

    • Hi DP,

If I wasn’t so spread out that KHC cut would have really taken a nice bite out of my monthly passive income. This way, I didn’t even feel it. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

    • Hi MR,

Exactly… Those cuts always hurt and they suck the big one… but with a diversified portfolio you can see that year over year growth is totally achievable. Thank you for commenting.

    • Hi dividendcompounder,

I take it one day at a time. That’s why I never look at forward income from dividends as it’s not guaranteed. Once paid in hand I know it’s real. Till then, it’s all an estimate. I look forward to that four digit mark one day.

  1. Great month DivHut! So close to $1000 as well!
I love how diversified your portfolio is. The dividends from your brokerage account don’t even fit in the screen of my laptop 🙂
Keep up great work and stick to your strategy!

    • Hi BI,

Thank you for your comment and continued support. My portfolio has been built up over a decade though honestly I am considering shuttling some stocks. Besides buying new companies here and there I have seen at least ten new stocks added to my account because of spin offs. For now I kept them all but I am considering a trim sometime in 2019.

    • Hi TT,

It sure is. I see it in my future. In the meantime, it will be more of the same which is making monthly buys and reinvest my dividends as they come.

  2. Excellent progress, DivHut. $1K levels will soon be an ordinary occurrence for you as you steadily continue to grow your Portfolio.
Any thoughts on adding to your AMGN position and boosting their dividend contribution to your portfolio? Healthcare has been in the doldrums recently, but perhaps that offers a long-term opportunity.

    • Hi ED,

April and health has been a bad mix to say the least which is why I see many buys in ABBV, WBA, CVS and the like. I do want to boost my AMGN but not at current levels. In the same space I am looking at GILD and may make it my May buy.

  3. Keith – Excellent month my man. Almost $1k. Pshhh. Wow, did you receive dividends from a lot of companies this month. On top of it, they are all pretty freaking stable companies if you ask me. Congrats again!

    • Hi DD,

I know that elusive $1K month will come. No rush. You know me… Just keep buying every single month no matter what’s going on and stacking those dividends. As long as year over growth is achieved I’m happy.
